Mabel Jindo Young - Adoption, Rescue for sale in Houghs Neck, Massachusetts

Our Mabel is a spectacular creature, brimming with pride, confidence and panache. Just under two years old, she came to us via NYCACC, as part of their Deferred Intake Program. In this situation, Mabel was spared the traumatic shelter intake process, and was surrendered to the shelter on the day that she could be transported to us.

Mabel was adopted from another New York Shelter, and, and the adoption may not have been a good match the from the beginning. The resident dog in the home was a 20 year old senior, who may have been overwhelmed with all the luster and bluster that is Miss Mabel. Puppies and seniors are not the ideal fit, and Mabel is a high energy, older puppy who is raring to go go go!!!

Right off the bat we could see that Mabel is a Gem. She is a robust beauty, with "Liz Taylor" blue-black coloring, and sparkling caramel colored eyes. She has a muscular, stocky build and yet is a relatively small dog weighing just 37 pounds. She has petite white socks, and then, there's that irreverent, wide white stripe that marks her chest, as if to scream, "I'm Fabulous"!

Mabel was described to us as a Korean Jindo mix, which certainly could be. She has the high-energy and astute intelligence that we associate with the Jindo, but she has a flat short coat that suggests some Lab or even Bully breed. Mabel is a powerful dog and requires a good deal of exercise and experienced leash handling.

Mabel has quickly blended into her bustling foster home, and a delightful, playful personality has emerged. Mabel would be the ideal choice for an active single or couple, who have some experience with Rescue dogs. A personality match will be key in her case, because she is a true Alpha Diva, who needs strong leadership, and an adopter willing to pursue her obedience work and make the proper correction, when needed. Mabel might run roughshod over toddlers and cats, but she'd fit in nicely to a balanced, household with older kids. She has an alpha tendency towards other dogs, but is quite manageable on lead walking in public. She may not be a good candidate for dog parks.

Exercise and obedience work should be a key component in Mabel's lifestyle. She loves the outdoors, and as a probable mix of active powerful dogs, Mabel needs an active lifestyle, with lots of action or outdoor adventures that challenge her physically and mentally. She could be an Agility or Obedience Trial Champion, and has already begun to grasp the beginnings of the Canine Good Citizenship program. Mabel has demonstrated unbelievable potential. Adopters could easily get her ready to pass the exam in no time at all.

Mabel has good house manners, rides well in the car, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should have appropriate expectations of rescue dogs, whose house training mojo has been interrupted during the rescue process. Folks should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident, as a Mabel adjusts to the new potty routine.

Mabel is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, leptospirosis, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
